It’s got to be one of the priciest Olympic souvenirs ever, but there’s
no doubt someone will fork over the $1 million to add it to their coin
collection.
Minted in China along with 28 others, the 10-kilo (22-pound) Beijing
2008 Olympic Games Gold Coin is for sale through an online dealer based
in Burnsville. It is the only one available in the United States.
More than 7 inches in diameter, it is the largest Olympic Games coin ever.
I’ve never handled a coin like this,” GovMint.com CEO Nick Bruyer said.
Bruyer has been in the coin business since 1974 and in 1977 helped a
previous employer sell the first coin to go for more than $1 million.
The 2008 Olympic Games Gold Coin is “the largest minted coin ever
produced by a government and a spectacular work of art,” he said. ...read more .

Summer is the busiest time of the year for golfers, and that holds true for Trent Peterson, on and off the course, after playing eight rounds in four days the last week of June.
Five days after winning the MGA’s Player Championship at Northland Country Club in Duluth, Peterson, a 2005 graduate of Eagan High School and former state high school golf champ, was on the tee box for the State Mixed Amateur at Mississippi Dunes Golf Course in Cottage Grove.
“I haven’t picked up the clubs since then,” he said before teeing off Tuesday.
Before heading to Duluth, Peterson played in a state Publinks qualifier at Keller Golf Course in St. Paul the day before the start of the championship, thanks to missing a few putts.
After he made some minor corrections to his putting stroke, Peterson found himself deep in the match-play-format tournament by Thursday.
Peterson, a former state Publinks champ and 2004 MGA Junior Player of the Year, will be a senior at South Dakota State University in the fall and plays out of Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley. ...read more .

I miss the days when Americans unabashedly loved this country.
We used to teach our children about how our Founding Fathers sacrificed
their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to escape tyranny and create a
home where freedom would be proclaimed throughout the land.
Flag-proclaiming parade routes of yesterday inspired hat-removing
solemn pride, and every hand was placed over the heart as the red,
white and blue passed by.
Why the respect and honor? Weren’t our founders just selfish fortune-seeking, slave-owning white pompous hypocrites? ...read more .
After reading the piece, it seems to me that the court’s decision is a
fair one and in keeping with the Constitution. However, it seems that
its true significance will be lost on the loudest of pro- and anti-gun
lobbyists and their supporters.
The gun ownership issue is much less about ownership than it is about responsibility.
Still, proponents will continue to call for unrestricted access to guns
while opponents will try to take away virtually all rights to gun
ownership.
The common ground on this issue is rarely trod upon....read more.

Here I post Minnesota Zoo news and other related updates. I volunteer
at the zoo and the zoo has pretty much been my lifeline since I was 13
years old. Completely unofficial, just a way to communicate information
to other zoo fans around the world. Basically this is meant as a news
archive, as the other archive pages, such as Monga Bay or Surfwax
tend to be incomplete and full of broken links. Think of this as an
online zoo scrapbook, a way to look back at the zoo's recent history.

My name is Pegi Taylor and I live in Apple Valley, Minnesota with my
four year old persian cat Isabella and my one year old yorkie puppy
Willow. I have been in the mortgage business for the past six years, a
Stampin' Up! demonstrator for one year, and have recently become a card
instructor at a local scrapbooking and stamping store. I love making
cards for friends and family, playing with Willow and Izzy, and meeting
wonderful new stamping and scrapping people from all over the world on
this blog.
My name is Amy and I live in the Twin Cities. After a long stint as a
single mom, I found the man of my dreams on the Internet. I have four
kids (three from my womb, one stepson) ranging in age from 17 to 12.
Ours is the kind of home where friends and family know they are always
welcome, and an extra plate at the table is never a problem. We have
been incredibly lucky blending our family, and I'm grateful for the
life we share-except for the infinite amount of laundry and the near
daily visits to the grocery. We share our domicile with two Black Labs,
Clark, and Nori. Dog hair tumbleweeds are omnipresent. I live in the
Twin Cities now, but grew up in Ohio, and at various times have called
Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Wilmington, NC home. I am a real estate
recruiter by trade and love my job, thanks to my incredible, gracious
employers. Rather than elaborating on my personality, I'll tell you
that if you buy into astrology, I'm a Sagittarius. According to
Myers-Briggs, I'm an INFJ. I'm the oldest of three sisters. In my 40th
year, I can honestly say that I've never been happier.
I’m mid 40’s
guy, Northern California native, currently living in the Twin Cities in
Minnesota. My wife and I have three kids two boys and daughter. When
I’m not blogging or doing strategic planning for my employer you can
find me fishing at our lake place, playing the guitar and enjoying fine
whisky’s from around the world.
I blog because I can.. because I should, and because it was my field of study in school. Now, it’s hobby.
We want to have a blog to get people to be active in Senate District 40
Republicans. Our blog covers State Politics as it relates to Senate
District 40. We support US Congressman John Kline in congressional
district 2, Erik Paulsen as candidate for US Congressman in
Congressional District 3, Todd Johnson candidate for State
Represenatative in House District 40A, and Bob Green candidate for
State Represenatative in House District 40B. A blog also gives updates
on the issues of interest, House and Senate votes, and Community
activities of Represenatatives Will Morgan of SD40A and Ann Lencezewski
of SD40B, and Senator John Doll of SD40. It's meant to inspire people
to contact their represenatives and voice their opinions- ESPECIALLY if
they have dissenting opinions!
A former Special Agent with the FBI, Rowley brought some of the pre 9-11 lapses to light and
testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee about some of the endemic
problems facing the FBI and the intelligence community. Rowley's memo
to FBI Director Robert Mueller in connection with the Joint
Intelligence Committee's Inquiry led to a two year long Department of
Justice Inspector General investigation. She was one of three
whistleblowers chosen as persons of the year by TIME magazine.
In April 2003, following an unsuccessful and highly criticized attempt
to warn the Director and other administration officials about the
dangers of launching the invasion of Iraq, Rowley stepped down from her
(GS-14) legal position to go back to being a (GS-13) FBI Special Agent.
She retired from the FBI at the end of 2004 and now speaks publicly to
various groups, ranging from school children to
business/professional/civic groups, on two different topics: ethical
decision-making and "balancing civil liberties with the need for
effective investigation." She also ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Congress in Minnesota's Second Congressional District in 2006.
Disclaimer: The author of this site maintained the campaign
weblog of John Kline's opponent in the 2006 election, which made Congressman Kline a bit
testy.
As with all blogs, review the facts
carefully and draw your own conclusions.
Watch a video tour of the new Atlantis 15 Theatres nearing completion near the Burnsville Center.
The silver screen is returning to Burnsville. Atlantis 15 Theatres will
open Wednesday, July 2, at 14401 Burnhaven Drive, just east of
Burnsville Center. Burnsville hasn't had a movie theater since 2000,
when two United Artists multiscreen complexes - one inside the shopping
center and one nearby - closed in 2000. Atlantis 15 is a
68,000-square-foot complex built by CineMagic Theatres of Maple Grove.
The complex is located on land that used to be the southeast corner of
Burnsville Center's parking lot. Its interior decor carries a theme
inspired by the mythical island of Atlantis. The complex features a
full bar and restaurant, which will open 45 to 60 days after the
theater opens for business.
Watch video of the Circus Manduhai at the Galaxie Library June 17.
"Shhh! People are trying to execute difficult feats of balance, agility
and coordination!" The Galaxie Library in Apple Valley played host to
Circus Manduhai, a Twin Cities-based family of Mongolian acrobats, the
morning of Tuesday, June 17. More than 200 children and parents
attended the performance, which featured tumbling, juggling and -
believe it or not - a jumprope-skipping unicyclist. The event was part
of the Dakota County Libraries summer reading program for children. Log
on to www.dakotacounty.us/library for a full schedule of events this summer.
